New study published: do cochlear implants improve the language skills of young children with single-sided deafness?

ExpORL Colleagues Tine Arras, Jan Wouters and Astrid van Wieringen just published their recent study on whether cochlear implantation is beneficial for the receptive and expressive language skills of young children with prelingual single-sided deafness. The study found that early treatment with a cochlear implant is associated with normal grammar development in young children with prelingual single-sided deafness. It makes for a very interesting read, so check it out!

Ever wonder how listening to a story could help us diagnose aphasia? In this short video, ExpORL researcher Jill Kries explains how her PhD work aims to do that.

From story listening to EEG-based algorithms, the development of a fast and automatic diagnostic tool for aphasia could be really helpful for individuals who have suffered a stroke and experience difficulties with communication and declining quality of life.
